This might seem like an obvious one, but I’m reminded every day just how lucky I am that I do travel photography. Some of the places you see will are simply breathtaking. Nothing is better then finally getting to place you have dreamed of seeing for years.

Its always a little unreal, finally seeing that exact frame of that exact photo worthy monument or landscape that you’ve seen as a memory from pictures, but right in front of you. That exact frame then becomes a photo that you can take back with you, and that will be moment frozen in time forever.

So if you actually think about it, you are capturing a moment in time for posterity. And every moment is unique and can never be replicated, and that moment belongs to you.

When you are passionate about what you see in your mind’s eye and you know exactly what you want to capture, patience and perseverance are your friends. I have waited hours to capture that one perfect image, because it all depends on the light, the time the sun sets, the time the tide rises, the number of people around, whether it is cloudy. I remember this one time I returned to Angkor Wat in the very early hours before the sun rose to capture the perfect sunrise. Some of my favourite photos have taken a lot of patience to capture, but its been worth the wait every time.

It’s been over 15 years since I picked up my camera and began my travel photography journey, but it has been one of the most rewarding experience of my life. This is one of our earliest pictures on a trip to Europe, in Salzburg, Austria.

Finally, let me end by saying travel photography has allowed me to capture some of the worlds most iconic places, and made me develop a deep sense of respect for the diversity of our planet, the differences in cultures, the beauty in nature and just how lucky we are to be surrounded by so much. I love what I do, and do it as a passion, not a career. Its a very personal and intimate way of preserving the memories of a place I’ve been to, to perhaps reflect back on as we move along on our journey exploring life and the universe.
